Todd Malone, A300 First Officer is our UPS pilot most intimately involved in the charity, "Bike the Bluegrass" to support research for the fight against Multiple Schlerosis.
The 2010 ‘Bike the Bluegrass’ is scheduled for June 5 – 6 and will start at Churchill Downs in Louisville, break overnight in Frankfort at the Salato Wildlife Education Center, and finish up Sunday afternoon at the Keeneland Racetrack in Lexington.
Tours of varying distance are available for all levels of riding ability and fitness, and the routes are well supported by MS Society volunteers.
IPA members and their families, who have been consistent participants in these rides for more than five years, are among the top fundraisers for the local MS Society chapter.
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision.
The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Approximately 400,000 people in the U.S. have been diagnosed with MS, and the local chapter serves 4600 clients.
“MS is a condition that affects people we love, and we want do our part to help them live well, to provide resources for treatment, and to urge research for a cure. We have a Biblical Mandate to use our lives for the benefit of others, and I have a passion to ride bikes. I am hoping to help develop that same passion in my son,” says Malone.
Those interested in joining the ride should visit http://bikekyw.nationalmssociety.org for details about this year's race.
All participants are required to raise $200 for the MS Society. Contact A-300 FO Todd Malone at tmalone@ipapilot.org with any questions.
